Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile!
Welcome to the Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile (Bookmobile!) The Bookmobile program began in 2002 in response to literacy, transportation, and child care provider needs in Franklin and Grand Isle County, Vermont. From the very beginning, the Bookmobile has sought to support education and lifelong learning. Over time, the Bookmobile has continued to serve more and more families and children in classrooms. By 2005, the Bookmobile became an integral part of early childhood services and social outreach efforts in the region. At that time, and still standing today, the following mission statement was created: “The Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile promotes a lifelong love of learning and builds community connections by providing greater access to books, information, activities and fun.†In 2006, the Bookmobile received a Reading Is Fundamental Grant, which now allows the program to give more than 800 child patrons three free books each year. In June 2008, the Bookmobile received the Program Excellence award from Reading is Fundamental,Washington D.C. Recently it has expanded into afterschool programs serving more school aged children than ever! The Bookmobile now has a collection of 6300 titles and visits more than 90 stops each month, circulating more than 18,000 titles each year. As any library, it supplies many information resources, and connects its patron community to available services, spanning two counties and beyond. The Bookmobile is currently supported by various grants and generous donations from the community. Please contact us with questions about services or funding ideas. |
